Send my Bags Update

On Sept. 11 I finally got my suitcases, a month after I had sent them from America. I had to pay $1,000 in extra fees, on top of the $850 I had paid to get them there. I had gone back and forth with customs. They wanted to know the value of every item in my suitcase, I’m not sure if they wanted the new price or what it would cost to sell it now. Many things just didn’t have a value. The quilt my grandpa made. Um. Maybe $100 if you had the right buyer, but I’m not selling it. My camera lenses. I said $100 each. They said that wasn’t good enough, they were worth more. We went back and forth on the camera lenses at least 8 exchanges. Then once that was done, I then had to have my bags “random inspected.” So first customs looked through them. Then I guess other agencies had to look through them. When I finally got them back, they had been ramshackled messy, one dish was broken and everything was all thrown around. My album was all dented up, when I knew it was perfect when it went in. I’m sure everyone knows my business now. But finally, finally, I got them back. I cried when I looked through my stuff. First of all, clothes. I haven’t been able to find clothes that fit me yet in China. Then, the quilt made by my grandfather, and my mom, and my great grandma. The towel I embroidered for my son. His baby blanket. Things like that. I have finally absorbed them all into my home and finally have more clothes to wear. If I had known what a pain it would be to send things I may not have done it. It would have been easier to have brought them on the airplane with me, and paid for them, truly. Next time I know.
