Ways to Travel

I have been boarding dogs and cats on Rover, and getting paid for it. After I rehomed my pets, it gave me the availability to do that, and the space. It’s been fun. I’ve spent time with some sweet dogs, and soon I get to hang out with a geriatric cat, Max. I don’t know if I will be able to do this in China, but it’s been fun. It’s not necessarily a way to travel, but potentially you could do this in other cities you stay in.

HelpX — I haven’t tried this yet, but I have explored it quite a bit. You can volunteer at one of their many sites around the world, sometimes with your kids, and do some kind of work, that can include teaching English, and then you often get lodging and sometimes meals included. You just need to get there. I hope to try this out after I move across the world.

Trusted Housesitters — essentially you sign up either to have housesitters come (I have had about 6 come to stay with my former pets), or to housesit yourself. It’s about $98 for one option and $198 for both. I hadn’t done the housesitting, but hoped to try it in the future. Essentially, if you can get yourself to another location, then you just take care of the pets at the home and get to stay there for free.

Home Exchange - I had signed up for this and did the membership. You essentially trade homes, or vacate your home to allow someone else to use it. I hadn’t used it. Most of the people who contacted me, wanted to use my home but were not offering to allow me to use theirs. I may try this again in the future, especially as I move to different lands.

Hostel - I’ve always wanted to stay at one but haven’t yet. Sometimes you can get your own room as well. Someday I may do this.

Monestary Stays - This is a neat idea that I recently came across. You can stay in Monestaries around the world. You often get a basic accomodation and one meal, and then you get to stay there for a reduced rate. In my research, I found a bunch across Italy. I thought you could catch the train and go from one to another and stay for maybe a week. I will try this out down the road.

Another portion is the Frontier Airlines Go Wild Pass. The summer pass is $499 and I flew WA to Jamaica for $90 then Jamaica too Puerto Rico for about the same and Puerto Rico to Guatemala for $56. They have a winter pass for $299. With the pass you get cheap flights but you have to get domestic flights 24 hours before and international 10 days or less before.
