NAS Guangzhou School

I now work at Nord Anglia (NAS) Guangzhou Panyu School and it is a great place. I work on the 4th floor of my building, so I do many stairs per day — like 30 flights. The school is BIG so there are many steps in the day. I can now walk up 4 flights straight without having to take a rest which is my progress. I have two grades of middle schoolers, who are at the lower level of learning English. We are working through the start of year challenges. I also have a fourth grade homeroom and teach an after school language class for fifth grade. I also have a duty to watch the field for a lunch, watch the building for a lunch, watch the cafeteria for a lunch and to watch lunch detention (my favorite duty) - I said in the future I just want lunch detention duty. We have to work some weekends for various task and our school day is 7:30-5 when we get home so it is a LONG day. The teacher bus picks us up and takes us home at the end of the day and on campus we have a pool and a gym although I haven’t used it yet. We can have school lunch if we want, we do need to pay for it, $13 for breakfast, which I haven’t had, and $13 RMB for lunch and it is amazing. I will have a separate post on Chinese school lunch. We have computers and ipads to use, if we get the COW cart. And I have set up my classroom as I like it. I have been incorporating various GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition by Design) techniques in my teaching. I have friends at school, mainly the other expat teachers. At our school we bring in horses for equestrian class, students can do after school sailing, and BMX and skateboarding, there are international travel trips, we have a golf driving room and a room driving range room, and a fencing room, we have a pool table and a ping pong table, and at our school we have students who board during the week.
