Guatemalan Food at Mercado Central Food Court

I ate in the food quart, of Mercado Central walked through the isle, looked at what everyone was eating, and then decided based on what looked the best. The vendor indicated for me to sit down. Then he rattled off a bunch of things about pollo (chicken), so I did Google Translate and asked him to bring me something amazing. Well, he wanted details. So I went to the “counter” and pointed to things that I wanted. At which time I had left my table, and it was just me at a HUGE one. But the women who were sitting next to me and smiled at me, wouldn’t let the people who tried to sit there, sit. They indicated that was my table. So sweet.

Then I asked for bebida (drink) and he asked if I wanted kola, but I pointed to the red drink everyone had, which must have been hibiscus, and after I started drinking it I realized that it is possible they just used tap water to make it (fingers crossed they didn’t). I will do another post on the meal. My meal was some rice (arroz), a Guatemalan potato salad, some like tomato sauce, what appeared to be a slightly fermented and slightly salty radish tomato and onion sauce, that seems to be called chojin, one piece corn but it was like maize, one meat in a chile, a Guatemalan meat patty (so good), some vegetable broth (amazing) and then limes, the best sea salt of my life and some picked jalepeno and carrots, and fresh made and warm tortillas.

When I asked how much (quantos) another new person sitting next to me helped figure the cost. Essentially it was $70 quetzals and I left a $5 quetzal tip and the guy seemed to be pleased with that. It was a great meal.
